Roman London's Amphitheatre
A tale of archaeological discovery, charting the history of the site from Roman times through to its preservation and present day display.
For over a hundred years people searched for the Roman amphitheatre of London, finally in 1988, during a dig at Guildhall, in the heart of the City, the astonishing discovery was made. A curving stone wall around the arena and timber beams for the seating tiers confirmed that the gladiators' place of spectacle - lost for over 1,500 years - had been found at last. The amphitheatre's remains are displayed below the Guildhall Art Gallery.
